About

Dr Matthew Murphy is a Plastic Surgeon with a special interest in Aesthetic Surgery and Stem Cell Research. 

​

He completed Medical School at University College Dublin with honours in 2013 and completed Core Surgical Training in 2015 being awarded MRCSI. 

​

In 2016 he undertook postdoctoral research at Stanford University in the United States in the areas of tissue engineering and stem cell biology. His research culminated in a PhD from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2019. In 2019 he undertook specialty training in the UK in the North West Deanery working in some of the busiest and most specialised units in the UK.

His research was further recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons in England with the award of Hunterian Professorship in 2023- one of the highest accolades for research in surgery in England. The impact of his research globally lead him to being a MIT 35 Innovators Under 35 Europe Finalist in 2023. His research was covered in media outlets including Forbes, New York Times and The Wallstreet Journal.

He completed his specialty surgical training in England and was awarded his FRCS in Plastic Surgery in 2025.

Since completing his Plastic Surgery Training he has been selected for two nationally competitive fellowships in the UK. The Niall Kirkpatrick BAAPS/BAPRAS Aesthetic Fellowship was undertaken at the Cadogan Clinic in London in 2025 and the TIG Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship was undertaken at the Royal Free Hospital in London 2026. Both fellowships have given Dr Murphy additional training in Aesthetic Surgery and Breast Surgery.
